Biology 2e is designed to cover the scope and sequence requirements of a typical two-semester biology course for science majors. The text provides comprehensive coverage of foundational research and core biology concepts through an evolutionary lens. This template course was developed from generally available open educational resources (OER) in use at multiple institutions, drawing mostly from a primary work published by OpenStax College Concepts of Biology, but also including additional open works from various sources as noted in attributions on each page of materials.

This is an entire course/e-textbook that was formerly the Boundless Business text that was purchased by Lumen Learning and maintained in its current form.

The material presented in this resource is generally accurate especially considering that it reflects standard business practices and concepts that have changed little. A few of the examples given in the text could be a bit dated, which indicates that its utility may come from linking to specific parts of the course rather than using it as an entire textbook substitute. There does not appear to be a great deal of bias with this work, since its positioning is relatively generic to the facts and figures and it typically steers clear of opinions and judgments. An instructor could easily remix this with more current, relevant, and culturally deeper examples.

The text includes detailed images and graphs that are well done and help drive home visual concepts. It is limited in terms of interactivity and is still a text heavy presentation. This material is published as CC-Sharealike so it can be remixed but not revised. Lumen has taken some responsibility for the fact that it can still be edited but likely not updated to increase its currency. Since Lumen owns this material, it is likely to be here in this state for a long while.

Most of the material is relevant to any Introductory Business course with concepts that would apply for a long period of time. This material generally ages well, it just needs to be paired with continually more updated and relevant examples as technologies and markets change. Student could likely meet their learning goals and interests with this material as a support (curated by the instructor) to an existing course but it likely does not standalone as a full course resource. It seems most useful for providing depth to key points with direct links to sub-pages within this course.

This book provides an in-depth look at beginner grammar terms and concepts, providing clear examples with limited technical jargon. Whether for academic or personal use, Brehe’s Grammar Anatomy is the perfect addition to any resource library.

This short text is designed more for self-study or review than for classroom use; full solutions are given for nearly all the end-of-chapter problems. For a more traditional text designed for classroom use, see Fundamentals of Calculus (http://www.lightandmatter.com/fund/). The focus is mainly on integration and differentiation of functions of a single variable, although iterated integrals are discussed. Infinitesimals are used when appropriate, and are treated more rigorously than in old books like Thompson's Calculus Made Easy, but in less detail than in Keisler's Elementary Calculus: An Approach Using Infinitesimals. Numerical examples are given using the open-source computer algebra system Yacas, and Yacas is also used sometimes to cut down on the drudgery of symbolic techniques such as partial fractions. Proofs are given for all important results, but are often relegated to the back of the book, and the emphasis is on teaching the techniques of calculus rather than on abstract results.

This first year Geography textbook takes a holistic approach to Geography by incorporating elements of physical, human and regional geography, as well as bringing in methods and perspectives from spatial information science.. This textbook applies a fundamental geographical approach to understanding our globally changing world by looking at local processes which are linked to larger global processes and events. For example mining and its effects are a global issue and we can see how these unfold in BC. A further example is the recent apology to First Nation peoples on the residential school treatment, as similar events occur in the US, Ireland and Australia. Processes of urbanization, a phenomenon which people all over the globe are experiencing, can be seen in Vancouver with our discussion of the city’s development. Geography students, indeed all first year students, need to be able to critically assess their own contexts and environments in order to properly engage with our continually globalizing world.

This textbook introduces aspects of the history of Canada since Confederation. “Canada” in this context includes Newfoundland and all the other parts that come to be aggregated into the Dominion after 1867. Much of this text follows thematic lines. Each chapter moves chronologically but with alternative narratives in mind. What Aboriginal accounts must we place in the foreground? Which structures (economic or social) determine the range of choices available to human agents of history? What environmental questions need to be raised to gain a more complete understanding of choices made in the past and their ramifications? Each chapter is comprised of several sections and some of those are further divided. In many instances you will encounter original material that has been contributed by other university historians from across Canada who are leaders in their respective fields. They provide a diversity of voices on the subject of the nation’s history and, thus, an opportunity to experience some of the complexities of understanding and approaching the past. Canadian History: Post-Confederation includes Learning Objectives and Key Points in most chapter sections, intended to help identify issues of over-arching importance. Recent interviews with historians from across Canada have been captured in video clips that are embedded throughout the web version of the book.
