13c. The Loyalists
Unrestricted Use
CC BY
Rating
0.0 stars

Although Loyalists were steadfast in their commitment to remain within the British Empire, it was a very hard decision to make and to stick to during the Revolution. Even before the war started, a group of Philadelphia Quakers were arrested and imprisoned in Virginia because of their perceived support of the British. The Patriots were not a tolerant group, and Loyalists suffered regular harassment, had their property seized, or were subject to personal attacks.

3g. Witchcraft in Salem

Surely the Devil had come to Salem in 1692. Young girls screaming and barking like a dog? Strange dances in the woods? This was behavior hardly becoming of virtuous teenage maidens. The town doctor was called onto the scene. After a thorough examination, he concluded quite simply — the girls were bewitched. Now the task was clear. Whomever was responsible for this outrage must be brought to justice.

About MoneySKILL
Rating
0.0 stars

The AFSA Education Foundation developed MoneySKILL in 2002 as one of the first personal finance courses available online.

MoneySKILL has evolved with the times and currently provides educators of all kinds (including parents) with a resource to create high-quality, custom, web-based personal finance courses. The curriculum is geared toward middle school, high school, and college students and focuses on a broad range of money management fundamentals.

MoneySKILL can be used as a standalone personal finance course or can be included as part of a course in economics, business, math, family and consumer sciences, or wherever personal finance is taught.

In addition to being completely free (and ad-free) for all users, MoneySKILL is offered in English and Spanish, contains audio dictation options, and aligns with nationally recognized K-12 personal finance standards. Both the curriculum and its underlying technology infrastructure are updated regularly.

Water is a limited resource that we use over and over again. The idea is to teach the science behind the water cycle, where water comes from and is located on the Earth. After research and developing and understanding of conservation students will create a water tower that will collect and store rainwater. Students will also create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on water conservation.

WHAT WOULD YOU DESIGN TO CREATE A HEALTHIER WORLD?
Covid-19 continues to affect every aspect of daily life for people around the world—from going to school and work to spending time with friends and family and in our communities. In a time of crisis from public health emergencies and inequity, creativity and innovation become necessities. This is where designers (and you!) step in. Designers today are responding to the pandemic, especially as it disproportionately affects marginalized communities, and reimagining the life of tomorrow by rethinking our products, environments, services, and systems. So many aspects of our world are being redesigned—including personal space, public transportation, protective gear, home- and community-based health care, ventilation in buildings, assisted breathing devices, public health communication, and more.

The 2021 National High School Design Competition challenges high school students around the country to design a healthier world for all. Be ambitious, innovative, and bold! Create a sketch of your idea and describe how your design addresses the challenge. Review how to enter and use these resources to start thinking like a designer!

This Super Lesson utilizes Project Based Learning to assist learners with designing, building, and testing flying contraptions as an introduction to Engineering. The goal of this project is to engage students in collaborative team work and to introduce students to the Science and Engineering Practices: Asking Questions and Defining Problems, Planning and Carrying Out Investigations, and Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions.

We have offered this Super Lesson as an 8-week elective course, developing and strengthening student interest in applied Math and Science topics. It could also be offered within upper elementary or middle school Science and Math courses. In addition, each week’s topic could be used as a stand alone mini-lesson if time is limited. We have worked to include multiple options within this unit to make it accessible to both general education and special education programs, including recommendations for modifications and extensions.
